The existing 5th Ave. Harlem Hellfighter’s Armory Drill Shed (1922) and Administration Building (1933) received historical landmark status by the New York State Landmarks Preservation Commission in 1982. The building is located in the Harlem section of the city on 5th Ave. between W142nd and W143rd streets. Design Resources Group Architects, AIA, was retained to provide renovations, façade restoration and site work in order to convert the Armory into an Army National Guard Readiness Center. DRG is providing programming and architectural design, building code analysis, and anti-terrorism force protection design services and is working closely with the Office of General Services, the Department of Military and Naval Affairs and the United States Army National Guard. Numerous deficiencies with regard to building envelope, life safety, indoor environmental issues, functional issues, and energy efficiency will be addressed as part of the complete rehabilitation of the armory building and shed basement area of the facility.
